Research Activities

My primary research interests revolve around the formation and evolution of planetary systems. In particular, my work has concentrated on mid-infrared analysis the solid denizens in circumstellar disks around young, low-mass stars known as T Tauri stars. Thought to be the birthplace of planetary systems, understanding the dynamics of circumstellar disks can provide insight into the location, timing, and initial conditions of planet formation.

I am also involved in developing infrared instrumentation for the purpose of furthering our understanding of the evolution of planetary systems. In particular, I contributed significantly towards the fabrication and implementation of LMIRcam, an infrared camera for high-contrast imaging and spectroscopy at the Large Binocular Telescope Interferometer. Dual-aperture interferometry in the first half of 2012 will provide unprecedented resolution and sensitivity at infrared wavelengths with the ability to probe the characteristics of protoplanetary disks as well as extrasolar giant planets.
